Né le 23 décembre 1963 à Canton, Nicky Li voulait devenir policier mais s'orientera finalement vers le métier de cascadeur. Afin d'affiner ses capacités il apprendra le Taekwondo, le Wushu et la boxe Thai faisant de lui un parfait artiste martial de cinéma.
Il rejoint le Sing Ga Ban en 1986 pour la seconde partie (post blessure) du tournage de Armour Of God. Il ne quittera plus l'équipe de la star et deviendra même le bras droit de Jackie, lui valant le surnom de "2e boss" ! Véritable homme de confiance, il travaillera, en plus des films made in Jackie, sur certaines de ses productions (Purple Storm, Gen X Cops...) en tant que chorégraphe. On le retrouve évidemment au générique des films US de Sing Lung et il semble bien décidé à le suivre jusqu'au bout !
