Biographie |
 |
La passion de l'art dramatique s'est révélée à Wong Hap au cours de ses études militaires, dans son pays natal de Taiwan. Au moment d'obtenir son diplôme, il auditionne et obtient un emploi d'acteur à la Asia Company pour laquelle il commence à jouer. Il occupe également, pour celle-ci, une place de remplaçant conférencier pour un cours d'art dramatique.
En 1959, sur les recommandations du metteur en scène Poon Lui, il commence à tourner dans des films en langage mandarin.
Wong Hap émigre à Hong Kong en 1965 et signe un contrat ave la Shaw Brothers devenue, à cette époque, la plus grande compagnie cinématographique de la région. Il tourne pour elle des dizaines de films et, grâce à sa versatilité, endosse les habits de personnages fort différents.
En 1977, Wong Hap s'en retourne à Taiwan et y travaille au cinéma et à la télévision, tout en ne se privant pas, sporadiquement, de participer à des projets hongkongais. Il n'a pris que récemment sa retraite.
Son fils, Wang Chieh est chanteur et acteur.
L'acteur s'est éteint le 21 juillet 2016 à l'âge de 86 ans.
