The Japanese troops bring carnage to Hong Kong soon after Hon Suet-fa and Tsang Man-kin get married. Tsang's mother Second Aunt loses her sight when their house is hit by a shell. Working as a mover, Tsang gets badly beaten in a confrontation with the Japanese. Hon has no choice but to sing at a teahouse to earn a living. There she meets her old friend Kam Lo-tsat. The husband mistakes their fraternal ties for an illicit affair and joins the resistance movement on the mainland. Soon a boy, named Chin-sang, is born to Tsang who is rumoured to have died on the battlefield. Kam returns and takes care of the distraught wife and family. Tsang survives the ravages of war and reunites with his son Chin-sang two decades later. Believing that Kam has appropriated his wife, Tsang confronts him and slams the ailing man to the ground. Second Aunt's explanation puts Tsang in the picture, and Kam dies a peaceful death following Tsang's heartfelt apologies. |
