Chin Hai-lin has worked more as a scriptwriter and director, and less as a front line performer. His first and only screen appearance was made in the RTHK TV serial The Boy From Vietnam - Series Below The Lion Rock directed by Ann Hui. After this brief appearance Chin worked behind the scenes.
In the 1980s Chin produced many TV drama serials for RTHK.
In regards to movies, Chin made his directorial debut The Pure And The Evil. In 1990, Chin and Ann Hui teamed up again, and Chin took the role of assistant director in Song Of The Exile.
Chin subsequently produced A Wild Party in 1993.
