Born in 1963 in Hong Kong, Tony Cheung entered the film industry in 1981, as a lighting gaffer and within 10 years found acclaim as the cinematographer on Autumn Moon, which won the 1992 Locarno International Festival Golden Leopard in Switzerland.
Cheung's major films include Black Mask, Island of Greed, Beast Cops and What Price Survival (nominated for the Best Cinematographer at the HK Film Festival. In 1998, he completed Simon Sez in Nice with a US based company, Benlomard Pro Inc, as the second unit director of photography. In 1999, Beast Cops was awarded the Best Film of the Year at the HK Film Festival. In 2008, Three Kingdoms - Resurrection Of The Dragon was nominated for the Best Cinematographer at the HK Film Festival.
