Hei-ching was born in Hong Kong on the 20 of july, she is Bao Fang’s daughter and Peter Pau Tak Hai’s (cinematographer) elder sister.
She began her career in the 50s-60s at Chang Cheng’s Studio (Cheung-Shing) – Great Wall. There she did a lot of things : actress, assistant, script-girl, etc. At the same time she took up a theatrical career. At the end of the 70s, at Johnny Mak and Tsui siu Ming’s invitation, she joined RTV (now A.T.V.) where she began to play in serials. She took parts in many famous serials including wu xia and familial dramas…
The way she looks, very gentle and kind, drives her to play virtuous women in accordance with confucianism ideal : wife, mother, sister, teacher, wise kung-fu master… One of her striking role was the one she played in Tsui Siu Ming and Li Siu Hung’s Fatherland : she was the elder daughter of a feodal family from Guangdong in the beginning of the century, true leader in the shadow of her conservative father Bill Tung Piu. This serial brought down the giant TVB which launched, as a reaction, a “gamblers” serial written by Wong Jing and produced by Wong Tin Lam, starring Simon Yam and Patrick Tse Yin.
From that time, she is one of ATV’s pillar where she is also the host of shows for women and special programmes. She always has a passion for drama and appears sometimes in commercials.
In Ronny Yu’s Fearless she is Jet Li’s mother. She stood in for Siqin Gaowa who was approached for the role in the beginning.
