Born in Hong Kong, Cherie Chung Cho-hung’s movie career started after she took part in the 1979 Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant. The actress would go on to star in more than 50 movies over the course of her 12-year career.
She was quickly picked up and placed on the silver screen in The Enigmatic Case, but it was her gripping performance in The Story Of Woo Viet that not only caught the audience’s eyes but also the coming new director Ronny Yu who immediately cast her opposite Chow Yun-fat in Postman Fights Back.
Her highly photogenic features finally landed her a contract at Shaw Brothers where she made her debut in Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. But it was her gutsy yet lustful performance in Shaw’s Hong Kong Hong Kong that she received critical acclaim she needed to movie beyond her sex goddess image. In the eyes of the critics, she had become a bonefide actress. In 1987, she has acted in An Autumn’s Tale. Years have passed and audience still regards it as the most romantic film in Hong Kong.
In 1991, she retired from the limelight to get married. She now spends her time helping her husband with his business ventures and is actively involved in protecting the environment.
