Kwan Tak-hing est surtout connu pour avoir incarné le personnage de Wong Fei-hong dans près de cent films sur plus de 130 ! Cet acteur est né en 1906 (il est mort le 28 juin 1996). Il apparut dans le premier film parlant tourné en cantonais à Hong Kong en 1932. C'est après la seconde guerre mondiale que ce grand artiste martial, spécialiste de l'Opéra de Pékin et calligraphe exceptionnel, atteignit le rang de star.
En 1949, il était donc normal qu'il obtienne le rôle du personnage historique le plus célèbre de Canton et Hong Kong : le docteur Wong (1827-1924). The Story Of Huang Feihong (Part 1) est un immense succès : on y voyait enfin les arts martiaux de façon réaliste. Kwan signa donc pour 98 autres films jusqu'au début des années 70.
L'acteur s'identifiera tellement à son personnage qu'il devint véritablement un second Wong Fei-hong, créant tout comme lui une clinique qu'il nommera également "Po Chi Lam". Idem pour le public qui voyait en lui l'incarnation de son héros, du bon père défenseur des valeurs traditionnelles chinoises, de l'autorité martiale et de la rigueur confucéenne.
