Focus Films is a new film company engaged in film investment, acquisition, production, and distribution of motion pictures. The company is helmed by one of Asia's biggest names in the entertainment industry, Andy Lau.
Taking its roots from Teamwork Motion Pictures established in the early 1990s with commercial and critical hits like Fulltime Killer, A Fighter's Blues, Made in Hong Kong, and other all-time Hong Kong classics like Saviour of the Soul, Focus Films continues the tradition in producing high quality films with expertise and creativity responding to the needs of society. We are also dedicated to nurturing independent vision and discovering new directors.
In 2004, we co-invested in the blockbuster A World Without Thieves directed by Feng Xiao Gang which grossed over RMB 100 million in China, and Jiang Hu, the star-studded and uber-stylish gangland drama by prominent young director Wong Ching Po. Focus Films continues to explore investment opportunities in Asian film projects. Coming fresh this year, Focus will co-invest in Invisible Waves, a new film by acclaimed Thai director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang.
For international sales and distribution, we have close to 30 feature films in the catalog. Among them are Jiang Hu, and Wong Ching Po's first film, Fu Bo, a compelling character study film co-directed with Lee Kung Lok, an exciting collection of indie favourites like Fruit Chan's debut features, Made in Hong Kong and The Longest Summer, Yan Yan Mak's brilliant film Ge Ge which won the Poveglia Award in Venice, Runaway Pistol, a garish HK road movie by Lam Wah Chuen, and Hong Kong realist director Bryan Chang's Lunar trilogy films After the Crescent and Among the Stars. Debuting in 2005 are noirish drama Fear of Intimacy written and directed by Vincent Chui, which was in competition at the Moscow International Film Festival; and A Side, B Side, Seaside, an independent effort by director Ah-Chiu featuring an exquisite coming-of-age tale.
From Focus Films own production stable in 2005, we are thrilled to launch FOCUS: First Cuts as well as a brand new and highly anticipated blockbuster project re-teaming cinematic aces Johnnie To and Andy Lau.
