Biography |

Director John Lo Mar began his film career as a Shaw Brothers actor, albeit in minor roles. But he worked with some of the most famous names in the industry, including the legendary Chinese-speaking Japanese actress Li Hsiang-lan (Yamada Yoshiko) in The Lady Of Mystery and directors Li Han-hsiang and King Hu (then an actor) in The Blessed Family.
Lo then changed career paths to become an author of novels, radio plays, and film scripts. In 1968 he returned to the cameras as a director, debuting with Alan Tang Cantonese movie Red Light, Green Light. He subsequently switched to directing Mandarin movies, rejoining Shaw Brothers in 1973 and directing as many as four films a year before leaving the studio to found his own production company in 1979.
He is perhaps best known for the popular Crazy Bumpkins series of four comedies that he directed between 1974-1976.
