Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa got his first big break as an actor when he was cast in Bernardo Bertolucci’s Oscar winning The Last Emperor in 1987.
Cary is widely regarded as one of the most prolific Asian actors in western cinema, having appeared in countless Hollywood productions, including such high profile feature films as Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbour, Rising Sun alongside Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes, Elektra with Jennifer Garner and Terrence Stamp, and as the evil Shang Tsung in Paul W.S. Anderson’s cult classic Mortal Kombat which has brought him much acclaim.
More recently, Cary co-starred in the epic Oscar winning Hollywood production of Rob Marshall’s Memoirs of a Geisha alongside Zhang Ziyi and Ken Wattanabe.
Cary has recently completed production on two high profile feature films, including the feature film version of the best selling video game Tekken, and Hachiko, in which he stars alongside Richard Gere and Joan Allen, directed by Oscar-nominated Lasse Hallstrom.
