HKCinemagic: In such bad market situation, what is your policy?
Wing Jing: HK is a too small a market. So it cannot support all the production. If you want a film to succeed only in the HK and nearby markets, your budget cannot exceed HKD 4 millions.

I did a lot of such budget movies in the past few years. And everyone makes money. The return is around 25%. But mostly I do co-productions with the Chinese mainland on TV dramas and they make money.

HKCinemagic: Were the last few films you did, Beauty and the 7 Beasts and Bullet and Brain,  successful?
Wong Jing: So-so. Because in Beauty and the 7 Beasts, I tried to promote a new actress, Meng Yao. She can play comedy and she is so sexy. That is why I want to bring her. So maybe, the first one or two films won’t make money. But I'd like to see at the third one, when people knows her and the name has become familiar and then the box office will pick up.

HKCinemagic: You like to promote actresses like Chingmy Yau, Athena Chu… Why? Is there no enough fresh blood in the industry?
Wong Jing : Of course, fresh blood is always important. No one wants to see ugly faces, old faces all the time.

HKCinemagic: But some people like Andy Lau are everywhere…
Wong Jing : For men, it’s different. Mid-age men are so sexy and have a mature men impression to women, like Andy Lau and Tony Leung. So they are sexier now they are older. They are more attractive to women.
