HKCinemagic : Guess this one movie won't be with Hero Youngster! But at least, in this one, you had the opportunity to work with many experienced action actors.
M Y : Yeah, I think that movie was good for me because I had to work with Yuen Biao and he taught me a lot. So did Billy [Chow]. I was lucky because usually when you're fighting with someone who knows Kung Fu, you learn a lot. But actually, on Undiscovered Tomb, I worked with the bad guy, he did the doubling for Zhang Ziyi in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, he's very good at Kung Fu so I was very lucky to have for opposite always someone knowledgeable in Kung Fu. It helped me actually. Because two people who don't really know Kung Fu, then it's a disaster. And if it's someone who knows Kung Fu who goes against me, I would learn a lot and everything would be much clearer.

HKCinemagic : Still, the choreographer of Hero Youngster being someone very experienced in the field, Yuen Bun, made the action was probably more demanding there?
M Y : The choreography was a lot different than the one in Undiscovered Tomb. Maybe because my Kung Fu had gone better, it wasn't much harder. Some moves from Undiscovered Tomb were harder for me, because of the locations. I would do it on a stone, the land wasn't very flat and Hero Youngster, the land was more flat, so it was much easier.

Boxing Hero

HKCinemagic : Hero Youngster has a very anti Japanese theme, a bit like the old mainland productions. Were you comfortable with those ideas?
M Y : I still haven't gotten the opportunity to really work with very big budget movie. I just take it as a job because I need to work. I did feel that it's a little bit old for nowadays to have that movie. When I saw the movie, I thought “Oh, it looks like a movie that would have been shot like 20 years ago”.

Cheng Pei Pei : When I read the story for her, I thought it was more like my kind. Actually, the character looks like me.

M Y : But I think, when you know with who you are working with, even if the script isn't very good, it won't hurt you to take jobs. You can learn through it. Of course, I would love to work on more big budget films with everybody being experienced and up to date but you don't always get those chances. So, I'm still waiting for that.
