HKCinemagic : In 1993 you won the HK film award for Untold Story, then you made other category 3 movies, such as Ebola Syndrome, Taxi Hunter… Can you tell first about Herman Yau,
the director of such films? |
Anthony Wong : Ah, he is my best friend. I like this guy a lot. He is very energetic. We met long time ago when we were in ATV. He was a student actually, and he asked me to help him make a short film for the student project and
he won the award. |
|
HKCinemagic : Because he is you best friend he cast you for Ebola Syndrome ? |
A W : No, no, no. |
|
Untold Story |
|
HKCinemagic : It was another opportunity then?
|
A W : Yeah! Nothing decided, just sign the contract. Something comes up, you discuss the money and they go
and write the script. Then it's OK and they pass it to the director. That's it. |
|
HKCinemagic :
The category 3 movies were very popular in the early and mid 1990s… |
A W :
Not anymore. It was the good old days [smiling and sipping his cappuccino]. |
|
HKCinemagic :
For Ebola Syndrome and Untold Story, the themes are horrible because
they're inspired by real events. But the production value and scriptwriting were quite strong. Do you think you could do some more
quality category 3 films in the future? |
A W : Not anymore, because of…
Now, you know, we are a part of China . We are forbidden to do things like that. So it's quite boring. I watched one of my movies
the other day, "Wai hai go" [Mr Wai-go], a comedy. It was quite good. I entertain myself the whole night. |

Daughter of Darkness |
Ebola Syndrome |
|
HKCinemagic :
With your own movie... |
A W : Yeah, I watched that movie again. I sat in my home and with some French wine
I was watching my movie. |
|
HKCinemagic :
I think you are an amateur of red wine. I saw a picture of you in a wine
shop in HK. |
A W : Oh yeah!? [laughing], “Le French wine”! |
