Servant girl Pan Jinlian is raped by her master and then forced to marry hotcake peddler Wu Dalang. Pan seduces Dalang's handsome brother Song, who rejects her advances. She then flirts with rich man Ximen Qing, with whom she hatches a plan to murder Dalang. Intimidated by Song, Pan confesses to the murder before killing herself. An enraged Song kills Qing and gives himself up to the law.
